E3: Employers for Education Excellence has partnered with the Pearson Foundation to pilot an innovative, hands-on training program that assists teams of teachers as they design and launch new, small schools. This digital arts initiative focuses on leadership teams from four lead sites in E3’s statewide network, challenging them to experience technology and project-based learning the way students do: by identifying a relevant topic, gathering resources and assembling a finished product that serves a purpose in the community.

The Professional Development Program: During the first half of the program teachers create an outreach video project for their small school. The process of coming together in teams and working collaboratively strengthens the structure and culture of the schools by compelling teachers to refine, personalize, internalize and effectively communicate the shared mission and vision for students.
After completing their own projects, instructors put their new skills and hands-on experience into practice, planning integrated academic units for their students that culminate in the creation of digital storytelling projects in their classes.
